In the mid-1980s, Mike was working as an
engineering consultant and was looking to make a career change. He took
several career/skills assessment tests and all those tests agreed that Mike
should not go into any work that involved sales!
Mike didn’t believe those tests. He believed
that he was already in a sales business.
You see, as an engineer, Mike consulted with his
clients to develop practical and cost effective solutions to their problems.
He identified pros and cons of various alternatives and helped clarify
issues so that his clients could decide on the best course of action.
And, once the clients had decided on the best
way to proceed, Mike acted as their advocate to SELL the client’s
preferred solution to third-parties such as city councils, executive
boards or regulatory authorities whose approvals were need for the clients
to accomplish their goals.
Mike figured that home buyers and sellers could
benefit from a similar approach that combined consulting expertise with
salesmanship.
He figured that real estate clients would love
an agent who would act as a consultant to them – explaining options,
clarifying pros and cons and helping them to make wise decisions.
And, once decisions had been made, he assumed
that his clients would then want him to act as their advocate to SELL
third-parties on doing the deal under price, terms and conditions that
were as advantageous as possible for his clients.
Mike has gotten immense satisfaction out of
implementing this approach to being a real estate agent. He consults
with you so that you can make savvy decisions about your real estate
transaction and he is your advocate who always strives to get the
deal done under the terms that are as favorable to you as possible.
And, Mike has received
immense satisfaction by proving that those tests were wrong -- by proving
that you can succeed in a sales business by being more than a salesperson
